I grew
up in a tiny town in Ohio, the youngest of five
siblings, and one of 50 first cousins! I spent a lot
of time reading until I had read every book in the
small public library. After attending several colleges
and marrying my college sweetheart husband of 39
years, I ended up in the Northeast and began my 30
year teaching career. I've taught a program for gifted
students, English, and finally library media. I became
a perpetual student, earning degrees along the way.
Now I continue to learn by teaching and coordinating a
state-endorsed program for other teachers who want to
become library media specialists.
Our children are grown and I'm very proud of their
accomplishments. They both loved their years at
Danbury High and felt it prepared them for the wider
world. Our daughter graduated from Wesleyan
University, became a human resources specialist, and
is now finishing grad school
at Harvard in public
health management. Our son graduated
from Vassar College and the University of Maryland. He
is the director of advisement for the Barrett Honors
College at Arizona State University.
I am often a social
butterfly (and had to learn to control that in school)
and have many dear friends. But next to family and
friends, I like to spend time with books, new
technologies, and teens. All inspire me.
My husband and I enjoy our
down-sized life at our new/old condo in Southbury with
our rescued cat Lucky. We like walking in
our community, going to movies, having dinner with
friends, traveling to visit our children, and watching
some crime and reality shows (including Survivor, Mrs. Parmelee). TiVo is my friend!
Since I come from such a
large family, our travels usually include visits to
see them all around the United States. |

Born and
raised in Green Brook, NJ, I have moved eight times with
my family. My family has lived in Fairmont, WV;
Lancaster, PA; Pitman, NJ; Lake Bluff, IL; Waynesboro,
VA; Middlebury, CT; Haddonfield, NJ; and then back to
Southbury, CT since 2002. I am really
good at packing and unpacking!
My eldest daughter is a Math
teacher in NJ, my middle son is an
event coordinator for New York Road
Runners in New York and my youngest son is attending
law school at the University of
Richmond.
I taught Reading in WV and PA before starting my family
and have been a Library Media Specialist in CT and NJ
working with middle school and high school level
students since 1997. Mrs. Roberts and I met at Southern
where we earned our Masters of Library Science.
I have always been surrounded by books and learning. I
am passionate about learning new skills and I am
thoroughly enjoying all the new technology that is
bombarding our students, schools, and my twenty first
century life! I am always ready to learn more.
At home I reside in a restored federal style home built
in 1780 amid other colonial homes in my neighborhood of
the same time period. So I get to experience the best
parts of the 18th and the 21st centuries every day.
I love to read, love the beach, love to explore new
technologies, love to hunt for antiques, enjoy travel to
new places, and love to exercise when I walk my
dog, Pete. I spend my summers
in New Jersey at the
shore where my extended family lives.
I love my job at Staples and have the best time helping
our students learn how to locate and sort through all
the information resources they need to be successful in
all their classes and beyond. I like to think that we
in the LLC are preparing our students well for the
future. |
