Look to Your Shoes

By Ashley Lepre

Look to your shoes when you’re lonely or blue.

They’ll remind you how lucky you are to be you.

When the ground that you’re walking seems mean as a curse,

you may have it bad but your shoes have it worse.

For, shoes have no choices, they have no control

and each passing day eats away at their soul.

And life can be rotten and boy does it stink,

but remember your sneakers and what they must think.

The world may be shallow and you may feel low,

but as low as your shoes? You’ve a long way to go.

In the hottest of sand or the coldest of snow

your shoes will protect you and suffer the blow.

Now, this isn’t to say life’s a walk in the park,

for, of course it gets lonely, of course it gets dark.

Yes, life can get tangled or loose and undone,

and it trips you sometimes when you’re trying to run.

But try to remember, regardless of strife,

there is always a reason to cherish your life.

So look to your shoes when your lonely or blue

and remember how lucky you are to be you.
