When All Is Done
Nathan Mittleman

I am here as but a falling leaf
Cast lazily aside among a sea of foliage
I rest my head against the autumn breeze
To rest, if for just a moment

I awake in flurries of icy rain
The heavens blow wild winter winds
For once though I cannot sleep
While all else slumbers I lie awake atop the earth

And then, all stirs save for I who never slept
The leaves that once made the sea grow back
The trees will shiver in the wind, but not let go
Not until the fall wind blows once more
To be lost again, if not found
When all is done
