Two Poems

Jahari Dodd

To Scott:

I had a relapse a drawback of my rehabilitation

Drugs in my friend causes great frustration

I love my friend and would hate to see

Him go

But at this rate he’ll be dead before

I know

I’ll be missing him over his grave

Saying he’s a soul I wish I could have saved

Watching him failing so weak, his body shutting down

Reaching to grab his arm

Pull back causing harm

Don’t wanna get to deep my love for you

Is strong not sweet.

Sleepers:

Shh,

the sleepers are sleeping

Sleeping past the headlines

Top stories

Front pages

The drive-by’s

Mom’s cry

Bush lies

Well, hell you can scream

These sleepers are in a deep

Sleep

But don’t let a man take a bribe

Or a bird fly with flu

Or a government be corrupt

Because these sleepers pop up

Jumping wall 2 wall

But like all highs

They come back down

To sleep

So all you hate crimes, aids patients, hazing victims, hurricane refugees, abused wives

Stop right through its not like they hear you…..

Oops sorry like they care.
