The Mind: My Home
Mike Schneider
I live in the mind.
I never leave here.
Sometimes I wander,
But never too far.
Much more than
Axons,
Dendrites,
Nervous tissue,
Blood vessels
—It is my home.
I stay here
No matter where I go.
Thinking before acting
Comprehending before
Moving forward—everything is decided here.
Never constant,
But always familiar
Always expanding
Forming truths
Reflecting on times past;
Repeating that sweet old melody
That grandmother used to hum
The hustle and bustle
Of a thousand cities;
The tranquility and silence
Of a good night’s sleep
Still a mystery to me
And to its self
Always
New doors
To open
Windows
To look out of
No walls
Or ceiling
Secluded
But liberating
