Something worth remembering
Steph Kranes
Feelings are sometimes…well, smothered.
In a Painted History – two children stand in warm and cool.
His ribs show through a collared shirt
While straps twist through faded cotton.
Sleeves short, the T is worn in.
He hugs her and she whispers.
Their colors blend in.
Taking chances, whew.
Took them.
I still get flashbacks.
In every meager beacon of fondness, I escape through your unpredictable remarks
But you’re becoming very predictable the more I know you
Standing here now,
I’ll look back on this next year
I am regretful
Of letting desire trample admiration
And
A remarkably exotic friendship
When you don’t say anything at all,
I walk through gray –
Sobbing for our old Orange and Blue
But the more I know you now,
I know you won’t forget me.
