Remember to Eat Your Breakfast and

Your Pain to Start Your Day

Dave Van Witt

We went sight seeing in a town I knew

But now it is a heavenly memory.

CRUNCH CRUNCH!

With my ninja turtle boots

It’s almost noon,

And last night the white froze silently under the moon.

Soon, I’ll get there soon.

I knew the surprise would be great.

The surprise?

No wait,

The surprise would be my doubtful truth.

Sure enough, truth stood tall.

Surrounded by a frozen pond,

Like a kingdom with no wall.

I told myself fear!

Fear would keep them out.

Fear of the ice breaking around the spout.

The spout where the water once shot.

In this never ended winter fever,

With a once forever father,

The water is much much calmer,

And colder,

It shivered so hard it stopped!

…And now and again

Then becomes now,

And it enters my head.

It was my first winter in that town,

And as strong as seven deadly sins it was my last with him!

Then, Then he placed me on the icy fountain throne.

Smiled and laughed and we played all day.

I was king.

I was king then.

But now is here until a later present,

When now turns to then.

And then when I missed him.

That is my not yet present

Because at that moment,

I fell off the throne,

A king fell dead.

In the end,

Then will become now again.

Past will enter my head

But instead, I’ll say that was yesterday.

Now I don’t need to be lifted to a throne of ice.

Because in that future day-

I’ll build my own throne,

Built of past pain that will never melt away.
