Embrace or brace the Fall

Dave Van Witt

It’s a sudden late October; I’ll be expecting an absence of birds soon.

All my senses tell of a story about how the wind blew.

It took its toll on the leaves.

Each soul filled leaf struggled and seizured to break free.

But the anchor is tied to tight around its aura.

This is my story about acceptance.

At the same time that the wind blew

and the fire filled tears lost their grip.

A wind chime made present when it wiggled out a few silver notes.

It’s seemingly hard to explain why some trees cry their tears off,

And some don’t need to try and die.

But then again the trees that let a part of them fall,

Seem to get all the attention of the world.

Do you start to see?

The most beautiful time of year is the autumn, the fall.

Where the life turns to the color of fire.

The trees let the leaves fall and a young writer becomes inspired.

I’ve never witnessed such a gentle death.

They simply forget their grip and let out their last breath.
