·         Connecticut’s Race to the Top: Ensuring a Quality Education for Every Child

Monday, February 8, 2010, 7:30 PM, Westport Public Library, McManus Room

Would you be surprised to learn that Connecticut is dead last in the country...50th out of 50...in terms of the results we achieve for our low-income students, while our spending per student is among the highest?  Or that even public school children in our wealthiest districts score a full grade level behind their peers in neighboring Massachusetts?

Join us as we learn from Alex Johnston, President and CEO of the Connecticut Coalition for Achievement Now (ConnCAN), about:

the state of public education in Connecticut, and where we rank,

the exciting new opportunity offered by the Federal "Race to the Top" funding program,  and

what we can do together to improve public education for ALL children.

Our children get one chance at an education; what can we do to give them the best shot?

·         FINANCIAL PLANNING WORKSHOP offered to college- bound students and their parents on Wednesday, Feb. 10, from 7:30 – 9 p.m. at Toquet Hall. This FREE workshop is presented by the Connecticut Money School (CMS), and co-sponsored by Westport Dept of Human Services. The program will help families prepare for college by talking about financial health and spending habits and reviewing college funding options.  Space is limited and seating will be first come, first serve. For reservations contact Kevin Godburn by e-mail: toquethall@hotmail.com or phone (203)341-1155.

ATTENTION ALL SENIORS
PRIOR TO JANUARY 25th, you MUST log into your Naviance Family Connection Account and update your list of Colleges I am Applying to.
•    If you decided not to apply to a college you originally requested a transcript for, delete the college from your list.
•    If you have submitted your application, click on the have you applied link and check off I have submitted my application.
•    Edit the application status for each college on your list. Click on the pencil to update your results. Let us know if you were accepted, deferred, denied, or still don’t know.

Why do you need to do this? And why is it so important? Mrs. Ketley, the transcript secretary, will automatically mail your mid-year transcripts to each school to which you have applied. It is essential that she send your transcript only to the schools to which you have sent an application. Updates and accurate information are important for the Guidance Department to be able to properly process your mid-year and end of year transcripts and the data we collect helps us to assist other students in the entire college application process.
