Staples Players Creed

To achieve excellence in theatre, I must intentionally help build a strong community through trust, responsibility and compassion. This means treating others with respect and following through on commitments. This means that I will always be present on time to rehearsals (to the absolute best of my ability).
In order to do my best it is essential that I refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages and using drugs of any kind. This applies to all school activities and includes cast parties.
I understand that all behavior at Staples Players activities must be consistent with the Drug and Alcohol policy outlined in the Staples student handbook and that all infractions will be dealt with by the Deans Office. Activities include any time on campus working on aspect of the organization, cast parties, and any trips the organization may take.
As a member of Staples Players, I understand that should I not follow this creed, I may face suspension and/or dismissal from the organization.

Note: There have been some objections to the creed found on the following page. Some students have claimed it to be an infringement upon individual rights. This was never the intent of the creed. The consumption of alcohol is illegal for anyone under twenty-one. The use of illegal drugs is purely and simply illegal for everyone. The smoking of cigarettes or cigars on campus is prohibited by state law. Realistically we know that it is impossible to police these activities in your personal lives. We don't intend to do this nor do we want to. However, as responsible educators we must insist that these activities be restricted when on campus and involved in a production. If you look closely at the creed you will see that the focus is on responsibility and being the best that you can be.
