Stage Manager Responsibilities
Stage Manager: This position is appointed by the director and the technical director and given to a student who has worked to a high level of _Å cooperation and skill readily recognized by all members of Players. Although s/he may not be an officer, s/he must be able to function with all officers, especially the technical director and the tech officers. S/he will work on problems concerning the Fire Marshall and all codes of safety and health. Decisions are to be made in conference with the directors and officers. The attitude and work must be exemplary, setting a fine standard for all to follow. The Stage Manager begins to take over all matters of production during "Hell" week and is the supreme being during performance and runs the show. The stage manager assumes a leadership role in strike. Attention to details and deadlines is a must.
Stage Manager and Set Crew
* No audience should ever be left in the dark for longer than 15 seconds.
* Any Techie who moves set pieces must be dressed in black from head to toe, including a hat if he or she desires to wear one. Please: long sleeve shirt and long pants or tights.
* Stage Manager must be in all black from head to toe, no matter what.
* The stage manager and his or her crew must help monitor activity back stage by asking everyone not in or working on the show to leave. No one except authorized personnel should be behind the scenes. If a problem arises seek out the nearest adult in authority to support you.
* Once in process, the Stage Manager is in charge of all decisions for the duration of the performance.
* Any folding chairs added to auditorium seating must be tied together. Chairs not anchored in the Black Box Theatre (also known as the Albert Pia Studio Theatre) as well as those used in the Workroom Theatre must also be tied together during a performance.
* All chairs from behind the curtain must be removed for performances.
* No fraternizing backstage during a performance. Any distractions can mar a fine performance. Cast and crew must respect the audience and the show through their silence backstage.
* The back stage area must be clean and safe for every show. This includes the removal of all back packs etc. from the hallway so that there can be safe passage when the lights are out.
* Fire exit paths must remain free and clear.
* Nothing should be in the path of the fire curtain should an emergency occur.
* Shows start at 8:00 P.M., or as advertised, on time, on THE DOT ! ! ! No delays ! ! ! Players is punctual. If we don't start on time our audience won't come on time and so on and so on and so on.
* Intermission is never to be more than fifteen minutes, no delays!
* The Stage Manager must make sure that stage area is swept at least 45 minutes before every performance! Every single show !!!! Main Stage and Black Box Theatre and Workroom Theatre.
* Safety announcements must be made by the Stage Manager or his/her designee before every show in the Black Box and Workroom Theatres. This should include a reminder that the use of any photographic or recording equipment is strictly prohibited. In the case of a main stage production, an announcement regarding the taking of pictures or recording a performance, should also be made.
