SOON!! Sample Questions for this Year's C.A.P.T. Lab!

Format:

Question Types: Practice Questions Below

Multiple Choice:

These questions often give you much of the content and then ask you to interpret the information in answering the question. As such the test is designed to measure one's ability to apply the knowledge in order to solve a problem.

Open Ended:

These questions, unlike those above, ask for a written response. There may be more than one way to answer the question correctly.

Lab Activity Click for MORE DETAILS . . .

Students will be given a problem to solve and a list of materials from which to choose. In a 90 minute span the students must (1) design a procedure - 30 minutes (2) conduct an experiment - 30 minutes (3) write a report on the results - 30 minutes.

Rubric: The lab activity and open ended questions use the same grading format. The lab activity is further broken down into four areas: (A) Problem Definition (B) Experimental Design (C) Data Presentation (D) Conclusions.

3 = Excellent Performace: (A) The problem is clearly stated. Clear identification of the independent and dependent variables. (B) The experimental design matches the stated problem. Variables are controlled. The procedures are clear, complete, and replicable. A control is included when appropriate. (C)

2 = Proficient Performance:

1 = Marginal Performance:

0 = Unsatisfactory Performance:

Areas of Emphasis: These links take you to pages that summarize the basic concepts for each of the four major disciplines of science. They are a good way to familiarize yourself with a content area if you have never taken a course in the subject, and to review material from a previous course.
