"Humans are not the end result of predictable evolutionary progress, but rather a fortuitous cosmic afterthought, a tiny little twig on the enormously arborescent bush of life, which if replanted from seed, would almost surely not grow this twig again." - Stephen Jay Gould

A thing is right when it tends to preserve the integrity, stability, and beauty of the biotic community.  It is wrong when it tends otherwise.  - Aldo Leopold

"Nothing in Biology Makes Sense Except in the Light of Evolution."
- Theodosius Dobzhansky

It is my goal that all of my students become critical thinkers.
This is in the sincere hope that they will one day defy
the following observation of H.L. Mencken *:

"The most costly of all follies is to believe passionately in the palpably not true. It is the chief occupation of mankind."

ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY (232) 1 credit
                       The Anatomy & Physiology HOMEPAGE!

Prerequisite: A full year of Biology (Biology Honors, Biology A, or Biology B)

Anatomy & Physiology is a hands-on elective laboratory course which continues where Biology left off; it is designed for students who wish to delve further into the structure and function of human cells, tissues, and organ systems. In addition, such topics as human fetal development, human and mammalian evolution, and disease will also be heavily explored; special emphasis will be placed on such medical topics as diagnosis, treatment, surgical techniques, holistic medicine, forensic medicine, bioethics, and ethnobotany. Detailed dissection of both cats and fetal pigs is a large part of this course, as such, students must be willing to participate. Student evaluation will be based on both traditional and lab-practicum examinations, laboratory investigations, homework, participation, research papers, internet research and other computer projects, oral presentations, dramatizations, drawing, clay sculptures, and other forms of model making. * H.L. Mencken was a brilliant writer, humorist, misanthrope, and misogynist.  My use of his quote does not imply that I share all of his views.  His views of women, in fact, are particularly troubling to me.
