Class Rules - Due Friday, 9-9-05 (Late Day, Monday, 9-12-05)
Your first assignment is to print up and read the class rules (http://shs.westport.k12.ct.us/mjvl/lazaroff/rules.htm).  You, and your parent(s)/guardian(s) need to fill out and sign the form on the last page, and cut it off at the dotted line.  The rules may seem lengthy, but that is due to the templates included, as well as the explanations I have included.  A list of supplies you will need is also included.  Keep the rest of the class rules in your binder.

Fill out the Online Form - Due Friday, 9-9-05 (Late Day, Monday, 9-12-05)
As stated in the class rules, be sure to fill out the online personal information form (http://shs.westport.k12.ct.us/mjvl/lazaroff/contact.htm).  Don't worry . . . it's not that personal!

Lab Safety Agreement - Due Friday, 9-9-05 (Late Day, Monday, 9-12-05)
Every lab-based course requires great care with materials in order to maintain a safe environment.  As such, you will need to print up two copies of the Lab Safety Agreement (http://shs.westport.k12.ct.us/mjvl/lazaroff/lab_safety_agreement.doc).  First read the Lab Safety Letter from our Principal, Mr. John Dodig, and our Science Department Chair, Dr. Harry Rosvally (http://shs.westport.k12.ct.us/mjvl/science/lab_safety_letter.doc).  Then, please read both pages of the Lab Safety Agreement (http://shs.westport.k12.ct.us/mjvl/lazaroff/lab_safety_agreement.doc), sign (and have a parent/guardian sign it) and return one copy to me.  Please keep the other copy in your binder for reference.

Send me an eChalk e-mail - Due Friday, 9-9-05 (Late Day, Monday, 9-12-05)

Just so I know that you have logged on to eChalk, you will need to send me a brief eChalk e-mail.  For future reference, all e-mail to me should be done through eChalk.

Candle Lab - Check back later for the due date!

Next week we will be doing our first lab.  REMEMBER TO TURN IN THE LAB SAFETY AGREEMENT!  The link for the lab will be posted later (i.e., on the day of the lab . . .).

Outline Chapter 1                       Due Friday, 9-16-05
In order to help you to process the information you read, you need to start by outlining chapters from the text.  The outline format I want you to use differs from the one's with which you are perhaps most familiar.  Rather than merely categorizing the information in order, as in most outlines, I want you to DEC it (Define, Example, Connection).  You can read about it on this page: http://shs.westport.k12.ct.us/mjvl/biology/intro/outline.htm.  Using this format, read and outline Chapter 1.

Outline Chapter 13                       Due Monday, 9-19-05

Our next chapter outline, due on Monday of next week (9-19-05), is of Chapter 13, which outlines the Charles Darwin's Theory of Evolution by means of Natural Selection, which we have been exploring in class this week.

The Evidence for Evolution VIDEO     Due Monday, 9-26-05  (Tuesday for 6th Period)

For this video, the NOTES you take in class (from the video, and from my comments) are worth 1.5 points, or 30% of the assignment.  They need to be attached to the back of the SUMMARY.  The SUMMARY (MINIMUM of 1 page) is worth 3.5 points, or 70% of the assignment.  Contrary to what was posted earlier, there is a late day with this assignment

Our First Full-Blown Biology Test     Due Thursday, 9-29-05
The Review Sheet for our First Biology Test TODAY:  http://shs.westport.k12.ct.us/mjvl/biology/intro/2005-test-1-review.htm  Review sheets are posted online at least a week in advance.  All review sheets need to be filled out and returned (they count as homework) on the day of the test.  THERE IS NEVER A LATE DAY FOR REVIEW SHEETS!
