Skeletal System
The skeletal system serves the purpose of support and protection for the body. This system is what allows for the body to stand upright and to move freely. Bones like the Ribs protect the vital organs from physical damage by outside influences. Since the skeleton is all over the body it receives its food and oxygen from many different arteries, and its wastes leave through many different veins. The interstitial fluid from the skeleton is filtered in the bone marrow.
The femur, pictured above is an important bone in the body. The femur is the longest and strongest bone in the body. It is the mainstay for the leg and the other appendages, and plays a large part in standing. The proximal end of the femur meets with the pelvis, and the distal with the tibia.
