Cardiovascular System
The Cardiovascular System serves the purpose of transportation throughout the body. It transports food and oxygen to the other body systems and removes waste from them. Some of the major organs in the cardiovascular system are the
Heart, the Superior and Inferior Vena Cava, the Pulmonary Artery and Vein, and the Aorta.
The heart is the "Pump" for the whole body. The blood enters the heart in the right Atrium, it then leaves heart through right ventricle where it enters the lungs via the pulmonary artery. It exits the lungs through the pulmonary vein and re-enters the heart in the left atrium. The blood leaves the heart through the left ventricle, the largest of all the chambers.
The inferior and superior vena cavas carry the de-oxygenated blood to the heart. The Inferior vena cava carries the blood from the inferior portion of the body, while the superior brings it from the superior part.
The aorta carries the blood away from the heart toward the superior portion of the body. The aorta splits at the aortic arch and becomes the
descending aorta as well as the carotid and subclavian arteries. The blood circulates throughout the leg starting from the
abdominal aorta and continuing through the femoral artery.Skeletal System Lymphatic System Integumentary System Cardiovascular System
