And I know this because...

How does Elphaba feel about her sister?
Gillikin (196) - "Better she than I..." I think that Elphaba is jealous of her sister. And, then, what is she jealous of? She has a sense of duty towards he sister, and she is jealous that her dad loves her sister (Nessie) more. More self-interested than helpful. Elph's love is a familial love. When Elph was a baby she would bite everything, but then she began to take care of her sister after she was born - her sister's birth changed Elph.
Ummm... what I was asking - does she like her? If they weren't related would they still "hang out" together?
She doesn't like how her sister is like completely into religion, when she isn't' at all. But we have to think about what her existence has done for Elph.
Why does she leave her?
324 - "you are condemning yourself to a life of sadness..."
That the one thing which is "wholly and eternally wrong" is the effort of so-called statesmen to inject one-sided and jaundiced sentiments into the youth of the country in either section. Such sentiments are neither consistent with the truth of history, nor conducive to the future welfare and unity of the Republic. The assumption on either side of all the righteousness and all the truth would produce a belittling arrogance, and an offensive intolerance of the opposing section; or, if either section could be persuaded that it was "wholly and eternally wrong," it would inevitably destroy the self-respect and manhood of its people.

Why does it matter? Why does it matter? Why does it matter? Why does it matter? Why does it matter? Why does it matter?
234 - Nessie is trying to convert her - I can't pledge allegiance to anything...
It matter because she is trying to define herself and she is doing so because by following her sister. And when she leaves she is finally coming into her own.
Someone needs to say something about the quote.
Matt M's group - is the quote itself valid? By admitting you are wrong then it destroys you. Sometimes what you need to do is to admit that you are wrong. So what is "wholly and eternally wrong"? By admitting that your are wrong. Therefore what happens to those bears, then there is something that is not "wholly and eternally wrong," Then - where do your allegiance lie? To your government, family or to yourself.
For the second time Bueller... Bueller...Anyone... Anyone... Bueller...
"what you call a conscience I prefer to call instinct."
For homework...Go back to your groups for 5 minutes... and think about that page and how it relates to the quote...
