What does the leader look like who:

• refuses to rise to power?

how she reacts with people: tries to blend in, remain anonymous, cover face with hair or hat. Body Language: bowed head, no smiles or laughter, always looks angry or sad; (175) doesn't want anything from anyone; glides, doesn't walk

• is unaware of how much power she has?

a person who can blend in but sticks out a little bit, a blur of people, but she is more defined that the others, some would glance at her because they look up to her; they would like to follow her, but she doesn't see herself as others see her

• who wants people to need her?
• who fears inadequacy?

Glinda

nervous, sad, unorganized, insecure, weak, but emotions expressed differently: can look crying in her eyes, or eyes could go beyond/look beyond, small eyes with huge things around them. (191) cries talking to Fiyero - doesn't see herself as a real person

• who has a conscience? a soul?

eyes full of emotion, body is tense with anger and frustration, sunken features (has seen too  much and spent too much time thinking about it)

• has a capacity for evil and a talent for goodness?

her hands, lengthy fingers, natural looking, soft skin, fingers are symbolic and literal - reach out and have control, soft skin = soft soul

lots of potential for good or evil, naturally evil - starting out with it; the person is very tall, deceptive looks, slender, features can go both ways

mentally distraught, but don't want people to know - convincing exterior, happy and attractive, don't stand out, clothes reflects that, chameleon-like, ashamed of who they are

seems to be perfect on outside, woman, pretty, has all anyone could ever want, focused on eyes (window to the soul), ice blue eyes seem cold, empty and conceited from far away, women are envious of her; As you get closer her eyes are deep and sad and full of longing, she is forced by outside circumstances to act a certain way because she is seen as perfect, wishes on the inside that she could act as who she is, wishes she wasn't trapped by what society expects. Reminds of scene in Titanic: Rose feels like in a crowded room screaming and no one looks at her because they are all focused on appearances, self-absorbed.
