Discussion Notes (Feb 7)

 Conor's Notes
  • Human Nature
    •  how our survival instincts will affect how we react to certain situations
      • power--man seeks power
      •        leads to corruption--goes back to human nature
      • leads to manipulation and controlling people
      •        get oil not necessarily country's unity
      •             secrecy and betrayal
  • its a simulation--human nature shouldn't be on top
    •  we are going to be analytical here
  • power on top-> motivation to get power, money in government
    • if you have power, you have money which gives you the power to define your own fate
  • bad things-> greed, oppression are used as mechanisms to keep the peace
    •     not everyone was happy, but it worked
  • power is human nature
    • oppression is a way to get power
  • peace doesn't really mean happiness
  • people want power peace and equality: but there cannot be an equal balance
  • balance of power is impossible
  • motivation to get power isn't a primal urge, but the want to make decisions and be involved.  human nature isn't involved because it changes with society.  society doesn't always tell you that you need power.
    • if you have power you can lose it, if you don't you can gain it
  • no matter where we are, we always want a say in thing s and be more prominent than the average Joe
  • if you have power you have more control over your life : safety
    •    power = human nature
  • would you rather be a person in power who everyone depends on, or the one that doesn't have the burden of power?
  • Human nature: hunger, aggression and the need for rationality and order
    • when idea was formed: the idea was tribe like and about surviving and getting by
  • who lives a better life? the president or the garbage man
  • we are taking research and things that happened in the past, and we see patterns
    • why do these patterns continue if it doesn't have to do with human nature?
  • people pay more attention to the deaths of the powerful, not so much the little people
  • putting yourself in power puts yourself in danger--> human nature is the defining theme
  • Cuborica- Will isn't driven by human nature

WHAT IS HUMAN NATURE??!?!?!?!?!

  • power is human nature....equality will never exist--> we want power, but you don't want to give up your power
  • you are defining human nature as how your trying to survive, instead of instincts that humans all have
  • human nature and power are both in the simulation
  • No one wants to have no power... and no one wants to be oppressed...but being on top is hard too (frustrating)
