Fear Found Poems

So far, you have read "Fear" by Raymond Carver, and "Mansion on the Hill" by Rick Moody; have watched "Blade Runner;" talked with your parents about their fears; and written about your own.  Now, we want you to synthesize all that you know by constructing a poem that captures, what you think, is the essence of fear. This poem will be a found poem. A found poem is one where you take key phrases and images from something you read, viewed, or heared  and combine them in a new way.

Your poem must be a minimum of 30 lines

Process:

  1. Review the essential questions:
    what do we fear?
what is the source of our fears?
    are these fears rational?
how do we manage these fears?

  2. Look through your notes and worksheets and think about the class and group discussions

  3. Lines can come from "Fear," "Blade Runner," "Mansion on the Hill, your notes, and can be your own.

  4. You may combine the lines in any way you like, cut some of the words, change tenses, add words, etc.

  5. You can structure the poem in any way you see fit, except that most poems are constructed they way they are intended to be heard.

  6. Eventually your poem will be published on the web page and other members of the class will respond to it, so the finished product must be of publishable quality.

the rubric is the same as for the narratives
