Inattentional Blindness

Misdirection:

Magicians are skilled at drawing attention away from the actual trick being performed.  This is called misdirection.  In doing this, the observer will focus on one area, and thus miss the sleight of hand that occurs elsewhere.  This is possible simply because the mind can truly focus on only one thing at a time.

Change Blindness

Continuity Errors:

In the making of a film, a script supervisor is responsible for noting which scenes have been filmed, the lighting and camera angles, the costumes, and the position of the actors and props, so that separate shots, when edited together, seem continuous.  Jumps in continuity, known as continuity errors.  These can subtract from the suspension of disbelief wanted by the filmmakers.  The cost of the script supervisor is far less than the cost of re-shooting, due to errors in continuity.  Small errors, however, often get through, simply because we have change blindness.  These errors go un-noticed, not only during filming and editing, but also when being viewed by audiences.
